Pokhara Buddhist circuit
Description
Born nearly 2,500 years ago as a prince, Siddhartha Gautama left his palace and his predestined inheritance to the throne to find a remedy for worldly suffering. After years of meditation, he realized that neither strict abstinence nor indulgence in worldly pleasures leads to happiness. It is said that through this profound understanding, he attained enlightenment and became known as Buddha. His teachings, which offer practical remedies for human suffering and can be followed by laymen and women alike, eventually led to the founding of Buddhism. This religion, which originated in Nepal and India, spread to neighboring countries, adapting to local cultures and practices over time.
Although Nepal is predominantly a Hindu country, Buddhism is still widely practiced, especially in the Kathmandu Valley and the northern Himalayan region. In Pokhara, several significant Buddhist shrines and monasteries offer insights into Buddhism, its iconography, and rituals.
The Pokhara Buddhist Circuit is a one-day tour that takes you to famous Buddhist stupas, monasteries, and shrines scattered around the city. You will also have the opportunity to participate in short hikes (optional) during the visit, providing a deeper connection with the spiritual atmosphere.
